MUSIC

I must acknowledge those gravity-free figures Chagall painted many years ago as they helped me express the sensation of listening to music late at night, when the ribbons of sound lift me out of my body.

In "Dreaming In Beethoven," a woman floats above the opening bars of the Emperor Concerto. The figures in the two "A Little Night Music" quilts are drawn up from their beds to ride the strands of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. "Courting with Copeland" expresses the expansiveness of Aaron Copland’s music and the dreaminess of new lovers dancing to the Saturday Night Waltz (Rodeo).
